Hikes From Pitkin

The Silver Islet Mine is possibly the most intact remaining structural artifact of mining history in the Pitkin Area. Visiting the Silver Islet will provide an unforgettable experience. Remember to take your camera!

This is one of the most user-friendly trails I have hiked. There are less rocks and loose materials to navigate than usual. There are a few markers without signs later in the hike. Ignore them and continue on the main trail. The trail is very clearly defined all the way to the next SIGN POST that you will encounter.

If a relatively steep two mile hike sounds interesting, the Lower Lamphier trek may be one to consider. The trail is rocky in places but sure footing can be found by watching the trail. Water and snacks or a picnic lunch will be needed and appreciated during the round trip hike.

Looking for a short but interesting hike? Touring the Sherrod Loop on foot may be just right for you! The hike is .35 mile total and the walking is easy with only 36 feet of altitude gain in total

If you have not visited an old authentic mine in the Pitkin area, this may be the hike for you. The accompanying pictures display highlights you will see first hand. The hike is a mixture of easy hiking on the old mine grade to more challenging areas that require stability on your feet. The round trip is about 1 1/2 miles and your interest in what you see will determine the time required.

The Tunnel Lake round trip hike is four miles. Trip begins at the top of Alpine Tunnel and utilizes the Altman Pass trail. Allow plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings.

The Lamphier Lake hike begins near the Gold Creek Campground parking lot at the end of SR #771 (out of Ohio City). The lake is 2.77 miles from the parking area.

The hike is not long in distance but the first third may seem arduous. Hiking from the Lamphier Lake to Gunsight Pass may take 45-90 minutes depending on personal physical condition

This is a great hike that begins anywhere you are in the town of Pitkin. You will be pleasantly surprised by the beauty and variety you will see and experience.

You will see and experience phenomenal scenery during this hike. Spend time stopping and looking both going and coming. The lake is 2 miles from the parking area. Mill Lake is 11,470' elevation.
