Blackalicious Concert with Opening Act Daniel Bambaata Marley

Blackalicious returns to the Center to kick off our winter season. Opening up for Blackalicious is Daniel Bambaata Marley, grandson of Bob Marley. Blackalicious is an American hip hop duo from Sacramento, California made up of rapper Gift of Gab (born Tim Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley). They are noted for Gift of Gab’s often tongue-twisting, multisyllabic, complex rhymes and Chief Xcel’s “classic” beats.

Like a few other West Coast rap acts, Blackalicious has generally favored what hip-hoppers call the “positive tip.” The lyrics have often been spiritual and uplifting rather than violent or misogynous. Like a lot of experimental alternative rappers, Blackalicious can be quirky and eccentric; nonetheless, spirituality is a big part of the group’s music. Although Blackalicious wasn’t formed until the early ’90s, its members had known each other since the late ’80s.

Six Points Zombie, Run: An Infestation of Fun!

Zombie Run works as follows: Particpants sign up to be either runners or zombies. Runners are given two flags and are then tasked with running a 5k course. Zombies are encouraged to dress as corpse- like as they choose and and their mission is to occupy certain marked areas on the course. Some zombies pursue you, others skulk around like undead do.

Zombies try to steal flags, runners try to avoid them- no physical contact is permitted. If a runner completes the course with at least one flag still in tact, he /she has survived and is eligible for post- race prizes. If a runner finishes with no flags he/ she is technically infected and disqualified for finisher prizes. There will be best costume prizes for Zombies both at the race and at the after party!

Zombies then have the option to run the course after they’ve put in their shift as the variously- moving dead.

Costumes encouraged, no weapons allowed. Zombie make- up station will be available with suggested $5 donation.

***Children and other particpants who choose to can run the shorter course (about one mile) through the park***

Official after party “Zombie’s After Dark” at The Last Chance 7pm-11pm entry is free for race participants- live music and libations (21+)

Cost: Visit EventBrite.com for pricing.
